Borderlands 4 Announced at Gamescom, Will Release in 2025

2K and Gearbox Software have officially announced Borderlands 4. The next major entry in the popular looter-shooter series will launch on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series S/X in 2025 during Take-Two Interactive’s fiscal 2026. “Borderlands 4” is the fourth mainline game in the series and the seventh entry in the series, following 2019’s “Borderlands 3”. 2K has yet to reveal any details about the series. The upcoming game will only see players once again take on the role of a vault hunter in search of secret treasures.

Borderlands 4 announced

A trailer for Borderlands 4 was released at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event on Tuesday. The trailer doesn’t reveal much, but it sets an explosive tone for the game and teases a brand new planet. “Players will once again take on the role of the legendary Vault Hunter, searching for secret alien treasures while blowing up everything in sight,” 2K said in a press release.

Speaking about the scale of Borderlands 4, Gearbox founder and president Randy Pitchford said: “Everyone at Gearbox has big ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are working hard to make everything we love about Borderlands 4 better than ever before, while taking the game to the next level in exciting new directions.”

“The Borderlands series is one of 2K’s most successful franchises ever, loved by millions around the world,” said Catharina Lavers Mallet, senior vice president and general manager of 2K Core Games. “We’re delighted that our already close partnership and collaboration with the Gearbox team has grown even deeper, and we look forward to delivering a best-in-class experience for both existing fans and new players alike.”

In addition to Borderlands 4, 2K also announced Mafia: The Old Kingdom and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on Gamescom’s opening night, both of which will be released next year. 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive is also preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025, making fiscal 2026 a busy period for the company, with the launch of several major games. “We’re excited to share with fans that 2025 is going to be a big year for 2K and Gearbox Entertainment,” Mallet said in a press release.

Borderlands 4 will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X next year. The upcoming looter shooter is now wishlisted on all storefronts.
