Bonita Springs hires former NFL assistant as head football coach

On Thursday, March 12, Tony Mottola was announced as the third head coach in program history in Bonita Springs.

“This is an incredible opportunity and I’m excited to get started,” Mottola said in a release. “Florida is one of the best football states in the country. Our goal is to build a tough athletic program that plays fast, plays every Friday night and represents Bonita Springs with pride.”

On Thursday, March 12, 2026, Tony Mottola was announced as the third head coach in Bonita Springs program history.

Mottola has been coached at the professional, college and high school levels. His most recent stop was Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, where he led the program to Cape and Island League championships, as well as two Island Cup championships. He compiled a 17-23 record in four seasons on the Island.

“Coach Mottola brings a wealth of experience and a history of building winning programs,” Bonita Springs principal Jeff Estes said in a release. “His leadership, energy and passion for developing young men make him the right person to lead Bonita Springs football.”

Prior to going to Martha’s Vineyard, Mottola coached at St. Joseph Regional High School, leading the program to four consecutive New Jersey state championships while coaching former NFL standouts Devin and Jason McCourty.
