Boat crew carries out rescue after 24-foot boat capsizes on Banana River

U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral crews rescued a person from a 24-foot boat that capsized on the Banana River near Kelly Park on Saturday.

Officials said the rescue operation began around noon when a Good Samaritan alerted the Coast Guard on VHF-FM Channel 16 that a boat with a person on board had capsized. The Coast Guard responded quickly and rescued the individual and took him to the Kelly Park boat ramp. No medical issues were reported.

Lt. Michelle Goebel, Jacksonville District search and rescue mission coordinator, praised the crew for their quick assistance. “Thanks to prompt communication from a good Samaritan, the crew did an outstanding job assisting the boater ashore quickly and safely,” she said.

The ship’s owner is expected to coordinate salvage efforts following the accident.
