If the Houston Texans defeat the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon, their path to the Super Bowl title will get a little easier.
Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix suffered a broken right ankle three games into the season before Will Lutz hit the game-winning 23-yard field goal in overtime against the Buffalo Bills in overtime on Saturday at Empower Field in Miller High. Broncos head coach Sean Payton told reporters that Nix will undergo surgery on Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season.

Longtime backup Jarrett Stidham is expected to start in his place in Sunday’s AFC conference championship game and Super Bowl.
“[Nix] It’s a tough cookie,” Payton told reporters. “I said, ‘Listen, I believe you’re the second quarterback to lead a team to the playoffs in his second year. [conference] Championship game, the first game is [Patrick] Mahomes. … We will rise to meet the next challenge. “
According to Payton, Nix was injured on a designed quarterback run that resulted in a loss of two yards. He was seen limping back into the crowd but never looked seriously injured during the match.

On the next play, he threw a long pass to Marvin Mims Jr. that resulted in pass interference and a penalty foul, putting Denver into the Buffalo red zone. Two plays later, Lutz won the game with a punt and added another game-ending 23-yard field goal.
Stidham went 1-3 as a starter in six seasons. He last played in Week 8, taking a knee during a win over the Dallas Cowboys. He hasn’t thrown a pass since the 2024 season.
Knicks completed 26 of 46 passes for 279 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Saturday’s game. The win marked the sixth time this season that the Knicks have led a team to win a game in the fourth quarter or overtime.
“Study is ready,” Payton said. “He’s ready, he’s ready. I feel like I have two guys that can start for multiple teams, and I know he feels the same way. Just be careful and just watch.”

Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN and ABC.
