DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage will start the season on the injured list due to an injury to his rookie right-hander’s pitching shoulder.
“It’s something that he reported in training camp and obviously contributed to his slow recovery,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Thursday. “Right now, (he’s) feeling good. He’s in a better position now to continue to improve, so he’s going to continue the program that he’s been working on.”

Schneider said there is no clear timetable for Jesavic’s return.
It’s the latest setback in the rotation for the defending American League champions. Schneider announced Wednesday that right-hander Jose Berrios will be ruled out for Opening Day with a stress fracture in his right elbow.
The 22-year-old Jesavich made his major league debut on September 15 and went 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA in three regular season games before playing an important role in Toronto’s postseason run.
He went 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA in six postseason games, including five starts. He struck out 39 batters in 27 2/3 postseason innings.
In Game 2 of the American League Division Series, Jesavage struck out 11, allowed one walk, and had no hits in 5 1/3 innings to help the Blue Jays defeat the New York Yankees 13-7. When Toronto beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 in Game 5 of the World Series, he struck out 12, allowed three hits and one run in seven innings, then came off the bench in Game 7 to allow Max Muncy’s solo homer in the eighth inning to cut the Dodgers’ deficit to 4-3. Los Angeles won in 11 innings.
Entering this season, Jesavic’s rookie status remains intact.
