Black Myth: Wukong Will Reportedly Get a DLC in Early 2025

Black Myth: Wukong launched on PC and PS5 last month and quickly became one of the most popular games on Steam. The game has sold over 10 million copies within three days of release and continues to attract new players. While developer Game Science has yet to announce future plans for the game, a gaming industry insider claimed over the weekend that Black Myth: Wukong will receive an expansion pack next year.

Black Myth: Wukong DLC

This information comes from Shenzhen journalist and gaming industry analyst Daniel Camilo. In an X post on Sunday, he claimed that the DLC for Black Myth: Wukong will launch around the Lunar New Year in 2025, starting on January 29, 2025, citing “very reliable first-hand information.”

However, Camilo added that Game Science’s plans may change. “While the team has internal plans and roadmaps, almost nothing is set in stone when it comes to game release dates,” he said.

Furthermore, the analyst said that the game has sold nearly 20 million copies, with the majority of sales (over 70%) coming from China. He also added that the DLC may not sell as well as the base game because Black Myth Wukong is too challenging for many casual gamers who picked it up at launch. “For many consumers, DLC is simply not an interesting proposition,” he said in the X post.

Game Science has yet to officially confirm its plans for a Black Myth: Wukong expansion, but given the game’s success, the developer may be working on releasing DLC for the game. Game Science investor Hero Games recently told Bloomberg that the developer is developing an expansion for Wukong that would give it “a second chance to monetize the game.” While the announcement hinted that a paid expansion is on the way, there are currently no details on the size and scope of the planned DLC.

“Black Myth: Wukong” is now the second most played game in Steam history, with the highest number of simultaneous online players in history being 2,415,714, second only to “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds”. As of this writing, more than 468,000 users are playing the game on the Valve platform.

Game Science confirmed last month that its first triple-A game had sold more than 10 million copies in just three days after its launch on August 20. Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, now available on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) and PS5.
