In a dramatic turn of events in Buffalo in the days after the Bills were eliminated from the playoffs, general manager Brandon Beane told reporters that quarterback Josh Allen may need offseason surgery on his injured foot.
However, Beane said Allen should be ready for OTAs in the spring. Although Allen’s injury was minor, it was yet another dynamite in Buffalo’s late-season explosion. Many thought Allen and the Bills would be in Super Bowl X, but that quickly turned into a soap opera.

Allen was injured multiple times, especially late in the season, but that’s normal late in any NFL season. Allen was listed with multiple injuries in the final weeks of the season, including to his right foot, which worsened again late in the regular season.
With Allen injured and potential offseason proceedings underway, the Bills are entering a restructuring phase after firing head coach Sean McDermott on Monday. McDermott is the only NFL head coach that many Bills players, including Allen, know. Nine years later, with the team making the playoffs in eight of those seasons and winning two AFC championships, Bills owner Terry Pegula finally took action and relieved McDermott of his duties in Buffalo.
The Bills are entering their most important offseason in nearly a decade, looking for a new direction and head coach. Having had overall success over the past nine years under McDermott, Buffalo can’t afford to miss out on its next hire.

Inheriting one of the top five quarterbacks in the league and a former MVP doesn’t leave much room for excuses. With Allen healthy and making some roster moves this offseason, there’s no reason the Bills can’t be in the deep end of the playoffs by this time next year.
