A billionaire couple left behind ForbesThe 400 richest people in America have made this list after giving away nearly half of their personal wealth through philanthropy.
In 2023, John is ranked 345th on the leaderboard Forbes 400. Two years later, in 2025, the 51-year-old philanthropist ranked No. 1,265 on the national list of billionaires, putting him well outside the top 400 richest people.
According to the media report, the Arnold family has been committed to donating huge wealth for more than a decade, giving away US$2 billion so far and being listed as one of the 25 most generous donors in the United States. This change has been long-standing. Their wealth is currently estimated at approximately $2.9 billion.
Currently, the Arnold family has given away approximately 42% of their personal wealth, and they show no signs of slowing down their philanthropy.
John previously worked for Enron, which went bankrupt in 2001, earning the company $750 million. Forbes.
The next year, he founded his own hedge fund, Centaurus Advisors, but 10 years later, he announced he would no longer manage other people’s money, according to Bloomberg. Forbes.

Laura, meanwhile, previously worked as a mergers and acquisitions attorney at the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York City, according to a press release shared by Rice University after her election as trustee in April 2010.
She also served as executive vice president and general counsel for Cobalt International Energy in Houston until her departure in 2006.
In 2008, John and Laura established the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, which later evolved into Arnold Ventures. The organization’s current focus is on reforming criminal justice, higher education, health, infrastructure and public finances, according to its website.
“They believe philanthropy should be transformative and should use innovation to solve ongoing problems in society,” a message on the organization’s website reads.

In 2010, John and Laura signed the Giving Pledge, launched that same year by Bill and Melinda France Gates.
In a letter announcing their pledge to donate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy, the couple wrote that they both “believe that our wealth…is not an end in itself, but a vehicle for positivity and change.”
