Penn State hosts Michigan State for an outdoor game at Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It was a groundbreaking day for the Nittany Lions and a fun event for both teams. In this game, the Spartans defeated the host Nittany Lions 5-4 in overtime, ruining the atmosphere of the game.
Despite what happened on the ice, it was still a great game and the official attendance just broke a Michigan State record. The game at Beaver Stadium had an official crowd of 74,575, surpassing the 2001 Cold War game at Spartan Stadium, which had 74,544 fans.

Beaver Stadium’s attendance moved the game into second place on the list of most-attended college hockey games in history, moving the Cold War to third place, while The Big Chill, hosted by Michigan Stadium, topped the list with a record 104,173.
Interestingly, Michigan State has appeared in all three of the top-ranked games.
It’s unclear if there are any plans for further outdoor competitions in the near future.
