Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany believes Mainz are better than the last spot in the Bundesliga and the Belgian won’t take Sunday’s game lightly – especially with the Fiesta club having new boss Urs Fischer.
“Of course, when a new coach comes, there are always some question marks. You always expect the reaction of the team. I have to say that we are always prepared – including the fact that the system sometimes changes during the game. Other teams have normal tactics and a ‘Bayern plan’. It has happened before that we prepared well but the opponent did something different because they were playing against us,” Kompany said (captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Much of Kompany’s press conference was spent dealing with personnel inquiries, and when asked about Jonas Urbiger starting one of the next two games, Kompany explained how the decision-making process works.
“With Manuel Neuer, we have two things to consider: first, his freshness and the pace of the game, we cannot forget that sometimes it is good to give him a rest. Secondly, we have to consider the development of Jonas Urbiger. When Jonas plays again, we will discuss it first with Manu and Jonas. At the moment, we are operating normally. Manu is healthy and performing well. Therefore, we will not open this topic now,” Kompany said.
Finally, Kompany was asked about the progress of Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala.
“Everything will go according to plan (for Davies). As I said before, everything until the end of the year is a bonus for him. If he gets minutes against Mainz and Heidenheim, then that’s a bonus – and then from January onwards he will be fully competitive,” Kompany pointed out. “Jamal is close. Hopefully next week he will be able to join us for some training before Christmas. It will be a good feeling for him and for us. There is absolutely no pressure on him or the medical staff. From January onwards I think he will get his first minutes.”
