Bayern Munich’s Vincent Kompany wants to see ‘reaction’ vs. Heidenheim

Bayern Munich fans weren’t the only ones hoping for more from last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Mainz 05.

Head coach Vincent Kompany wants to see his team remember the feeling of missing an opportunity and win against Heidenheim at the Voith Arena on Sunday.

“We felt we needed to react. After the (Mainz) game, I said, ‘You can’t say we played a perfect game. We conceded a goal from a set piece and on the counterattack.’ Heidenheim will want the same tomorrow. Look at what we have to offer in the future, we could have scored three, four, five goals. You can’t forget that. If we played this game ten times, we would probably win nine times.”

“Our focus is on ourselves. I hope we continue to win Bundesliga games. Our mentality is always about winning and not focusing too much on others. Heidenheim is our next game. What others are doing doesn’t work for us.”

Kompany will go into the Heidenheim tilt with a thinner than usual squad due to injury, international duty, suspension and illness. It is worth noting that starters Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer are both missing due to injuries, while Konrad Laimer is suspended.

“Manuel Neuer, Nicolas Jackson, Konrad Laimer (suspension) and Sacha Boy (illness) are out. Joshua Kimmich is also out tomorrow. He is still battling an (ankle) problem with the national team and cannot train this week. Hopefully it won’t be too bad and he can return properly in January. Michael Olise is fine and will be available tomorrow,” Kompany pointed out.

With Hinlund’s final game underway, Kompany is looking forward to the winter break – a luxury he did not have as a player.

“I have been a professional player for 11 years and a coach for two years, in total I have been in England for 13 years without a winter break, without a holiday. You don’t know how much you can use in the future and maintain the energy level. For the players in England, it is business as usual, they actually have more games during this time. And then it continues until the World Cup. I remember as a player, I used to have six days off a year. For physical and mental health, I can feel now how valuable this is. It is,” Kompany said.
