Bayern offers Anthony Gordon a contract

Bayern remain committed to signing Gordon in the upcoming summer transfer window.

“It’s true: Bayern have offered Anthony Gordon a five-year contract pending an agreement with Newcastle on a transfer fee.” Falk learned exclusively Bayern Insider.

“In Germany it is impossible to offer players contracts for more than five years (like you are free to do in the Premier League).

“Bayern Munich know they have to pay a very large transfer fee for Anthony Gordon, so it would be better to spread the fee over a long-term contract.

“So that’s what they’re offering Gordon and ensuring they can keep the Englishman for the foreseeable future.”

Although it is widely believed that the 25-year-old will not come cheap, the Bavarian giants’ supervisory board believes that adding a top attacker to the squad is vital.

Of course, it remains to be seen how much in the region of £80m Uli Hoeness and company are prepared to invest.

Where does Gordon rank among Bayern’s most expensive transfers?

Assuming Bayern approves a fee of £80 million for Anthony Gordon, it would make the England international the second most expensive transfer in the club’s history.

To put that in perspective, the figure is significantly higher than the price the Bundesliga leaders paid for Michael Ollis from Crystal Palace (£47.4m).

While Vincent Kompany’s men have done some noteworthy development work, you’d hardly argue that Gordon is on par with his Bayern counterpart.

But this is often the reality when buying from the Premier League. The quality is good, but the prices are often very high.

If we view the Newcastle striker as pure cover for Luis Diaz, better value can certainly be found elsewhere.

However, Anthony Gordon’s clear advantage remains his positional versatility.

If Bayern Munich can maximize the Premier League assets they have in Kane, Olise and Luis Diaz, he will be worth every penny.
