Bayern Munich held to 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen after 2 red cards, Dortmund closes in

BERLIN (AP) — Bayern Munich came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen with nine men on Saturday, bringing Borussia Dortmund within nine points of the Bundesliga leaders.

Luis Dias equalized after Alex Garcia opened the scoring but was sent off in the 84th minute for a second yellow card. In the 42nd minute, Nicholas Jackson received a red card.

Leverkusen took the lead in the sixth minute when Montrell Calbraith stole the ball from Diaz and passed it to Patrick Schick, who set up Garcia on the edge of the area. The midfielder’s shot went wide.

The home side defended well to contain Bayern’s counterattack and the frustration showed when Jackson was sent off for a challenge on Martin Tyrrell just before half-time.

With Manuel Neuer suffering a calf injury and substitute Jonas Ulbig suffering a concussion in midweek’s 6-1 Champions League win over Atalanta, Bayern called on third-choice goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. Just an hour before Harry Kane came on, Ulreich blocked Schick’s shot in a one-on-one situation.

Kane, who played for the first time since February 28 after recovering from a calf injury, has scored eight goals in his past four Bundesliga games. In the 62nd minute, he shot the ball into an empty goal, but it was ruled invalid because he blocked the goalkeeper’s clearance with his hand during the attack.

Diaz tied the score in the 69th on a well-placed low shot from Michael Olise. The Colombian winger then received a second yellow card for diving, leaving Bayern down to nine players with six minutes remaining. Although the home side fought hard until the end, they were unable to claim victory as Jonas Hofmann’s stoppage-time goal was disallowed.

Dortmund beats Augsburg

Dortmund were in complete control of the game throughout the first half and Augsburg were lucky to only be trailing by one goal at half-time. Karim Adeyemi broke the deadlock in the 13th and had several chances, hitting the woodwork twice. In the 59th minute, Luca Reggiani made the score 2-0.
