HSV is currently ranked second from bottom in the league with one game in hand. However, this cannot be taken lightly. They actually started their Bundesliga season with a draw against Wolfsburg, one of the league’s strongest teams. What’s more, they beat Bayer Leverkusen on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the Spanish Cup, and last season they even made it all the way to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Bayern will face Hamburg in their next Bundesliga match. However, since the above game is played in Munich and the European Cup game is played in Hamburg, this may not be too accurate a barometer for the latter.
Bayern have only played Hamburg once in the cup, in the semi-finals of the 2011/12 season. Bayern won 5-2 and eventually won the championship.
The competition will be held on March 11 or 12.
