However, this discovery reveals more than just the beauty of dinosaurs. Spinosaurus Most are found in coastal sediments, but this new specimen comes from deep inland in Niger, hundreds of kilometers away from any ocean.
Even a paleontology team led by Paul Sereno of the University of Chicago was caught off guard.
“This discovery is so sudden and surprising that our team is really excited,” Sereno said.
“I will always cherish that moment in camp when we gathered around our laptops to observe this new species for the first time… A member of our team generated a 3D digital model of the bones we found in the middle of the Sahara Desert to assemble the skull. It was then that the significance of this discovery really sunk in.”

Its pointed, interlocking teeth are reminiscent of modern crocodiles and closely related to long-necked animals Dinosaur Sereno and his team believe it’s buried in nearby river sediments Spinosaurus Probably lived a semi-aquatic lifestyle in forest habitats.
Sereno said: “I imagine this dinosaur to be a kind of ‘hell heron’ that had no problem wading into two meters of water with its strong legs, but probably spent most of its time stalking the shallow water traps that housed the many large fish of the time.”

The scimitar-shaped emblem is certainly beautiful, but its exact purpose remains a mystery. The team suspects it was once coated in keratin – perhaps brightly colored, like a toucan’s beak – to create a visual display.
