MILAN (AP) — U.S. speed skater Jordan Stoltz’s final push wasn’t enough.
The American star missed out on a chance to win a third gold medal at the Cortina Games in Milan by winning silver in the 1500m.

China’s Ning Zhongyan won Thursday’s event with an Olympic record time of 1 minute, 41.98 seconds. Stoltz, 21, who won gold medals in the 500m and 1,000m at those two Olympics, crossed the finish line after 0.77 seconds.
As Stoltz slid with his hands on his knees, Ning held the flag in his hands and began a victory lap.
Stoltz, a Wisconsin native, will participate in Saturday’s mass start.
Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands has won the 1,500 meters at the past two Olympics, taking bronze.
Women’s Hockey Final: USA vs Canada
They meet again.
The United States and Canada are competing for a gold medal in women’s hockey. This is the seventh time the two powerhouses have competed for Olympic gold since women’s hockey made its debut at the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

The United States defeated its opponents 5-0 in the Milan qualifying match.
The reigning world champions, the United States, are trying to avenge their loss to Canada in the 2022 Olympic finals.
Earlier on Thursday, Alina Muller scored a bronze medal in overtime to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Sweden. Twelve years ago, Müller scored the decisive goal that won Switzerland its first Olympic medal in women’s hockey, a bronze at the 2014 Sochi Games.
Team USA and Canada advance to women’s curling semifinals
The United States and Canada advance to the women’s curling semifinals.
The United States, without Tabitha Peterson, defeated Switzerland 7-6 in overtime. The two teams will meet again in Friday’s semifinals.

Peterson threw the decisive stone, which her teammates swept into position, just one step away from the Swiss’ nearest stone.
Canada defeated South Korea 10-7 and will face Sweden on Friday.
