While Arsenal secured a late win over Everton on Saturday, City’s points loss away to West Ham later that afternoon was undoubtedly equally important.

Arsenal’s own victory only maintained the status quo, but Manchester City failed to match it with a victory of their own, meaning the gap in the standings widened from 7 points to 9 points.
Former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos was perhaps the key player in this game, as he equalized for West Ham United while also making 21 huge contributions to the defence.

Speaking at a press conference in front of Bayer Leverkusen after that game, Mikel Arteta was asked about his former player’s performance.
“Yes, very, very good character,” Arteta replied. “A player who was signed before I arrived, he also had a long-term injury and he didn’t get as much playing time.

“But it’s nice to see him doing well and that’s all, all the players who are with us wish them all the best.”

For Arsenal fans, it may be too early to praise Mavropanos, because the Gunners have an away game against West Ham United.
The defender’s goal to extend Arsenal’s lead is good news at the moment, but it could all be offset if he puts in a similar performance in May.
