Apple Announces App Store Awards 2024 Winners; Top Apps Include Kino and Lightroom

Apple has announced the results of the 2024 App Store Awards, announcing the winners and finalists chosen across multiple app and game categories. This year, two apps in the photo and video categories won the Best Mac App and Best iPhone App competitions, while an app designed for musicians was chosen as the iPad App of the Year. Meanwhile, Apple also announced six winners and six finalists in the Cultural Impact category, while unveiling its top Apple Arcade games.

Kino, Moises and Lightroom selected as Apple Apps of the Year

Launched earlier this year, Lux Optics’ Kino, a dedicated camera that supports color grading and film presets, won Best iPhone App of the Year. Meanwhile, Runna, an app designed to provide runners with personalized training, and vacation or trip planning app Tripsy are finalists in the category.

The 2024 Mac App of the Year is Adobe Lightroom, a widely used image processing and organization software from an American company. It beat out 3D design app Shapr3D and task management software OmniFocus 4.

On the other hand, Disney’s What If…? An Immersive Story is Apple’s Vision Pro app of the year, competing against JigSpace and NBA apps for mixed reality headsets. Lumy by Raja V, an app for photographers that displays sunrise, sunset, and golden hours, won Apple Watch App of the Year.

Apple has chosen Moises, an app designed for musicians to drop percussion and other instruments from popular tracks, as the best iPad app of the year. Meanwhile, Savage Interactive’s Procreate Dreams and Bluey: Let’s Play (Budge Studios) were runners-up.

This year, the F1 TV app was chosen as Apple TV App of the Year, beating out second-place finishers Dropout and Zoom, which use a connected iPhone to allow users to join meetings.

Apple also selected AFK Journey, an increasingly popular fantasy role-playing game, as iPhone App of the Year, competing against The WereCleaner and Cognosphere’s latest game, Zenless Zone Zero. Supercell’s “Squad Busters” beat Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” and Gameloft’s Disney Speedstorm to become the best iPad game of the year.

On the other hand, slapstick platformer Thank Goodness You’re Here was chosen as Mac Game of the Year, while Frostpunk 2 and Stray were finalists in the category. Puddle’s AR game THRASHER: Arcade Odyssey was the Apple Vision Pro’s top game, while poker-inspired Balatro+ was the Apple Arcade Game of the Year.

Six apps and games – DailyArt, Do You Been to Know 2, EF Hello, NYT Games, Oko and The Wreck – have been selected as winners of the Apple Cultural Impact Awards. Arco, Brawl Stars, BetterSleep, Partiful, Pinterest and The Bear were the other finalists to receive the company’s Honorable Mention.
