After a brief spell of rain last weekend, Southern California is set for another round of weather changes, with winds expected to pick up later this week and a chance of light rain again early next week.
KTLA meteorologist Kaj Goldberg said the region will have plenty of sunshine on Wednesday, with coastal temperatures from Oxnard to Santa Monica in the mid-60s and inland temperatures in the high 70s in areas such as Riverside, San Bernardino and the Antelope Valley.
Cloud cover is expected to increase Thursday as the weather system moves into the region, but most areas are expected to remain dry through the weekend.
Gustty northwest winds are expected on Thursday before switching to northeasterly, known as Santa Ana winds, on Friday and into the weekend. Gusts of 35 to 50 mph are possible in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, with gusts as high as 65 mph possible in higher elevations such as the San Gabriel, Santa Susana and Santa Monica Mountains.
These winds may create difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles, particularly on mountain passes, while unsecured outdoor items may be blown away and tree branches may be blown down in stronger gusts.
The emergence of rip currents on Friday is also likely to bring warmer temperatures to coastal communities ahead of the weekend, with beach highs expected to reach the mid-70s by Saturday.
Looking ahead, forecasters say the next rainfall is likely to arrive sometime between Monday and Wednesday next week, but confidence remains low and if showers occur, rainfall totals are expected to be light.
The current forecast shows the best chance of light rain late Tuesday into early Wednesday, although the system is still developing and could change timing or intensity over the next few days.
About a week later, the region saw brief showers due to a late-season storm, with the possibility of more rain, continuing a pattern of occasional spring weather systems in California.
