The New Orleans Saints have played many memorable games over the years, and most of those top games featured record-breaking moments. Drew Brees has a lot of that in his own right, and so does Cam Jordan. But one of the most notable things in recent memory was Alvin Kamara’s Christmas special, in which he tied the NFL single-game rushing touchdown record with six rushing touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings in 2020.
The Snow Angel’s celebration and his cleats also showed as much, something that has never been seen in the NFL before, as he wore one green and one red jersey for the occasion. Unfortunately, the NFL fined him for this because it wasn’t allowed, but not long after, they asked him for them so they could put the pair into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Initially, many thought he had accepted it, but recently, he sat down with Terron Armstead suitamong other things, discusses the collapse of cleats.
When Armstead asked about the shoes, Kamara made it clear he kept them and asked the NFL to pay him if necessary.
Kamala: “No, they asked me to do that and they didn’t get it.”
Armstead: “Are you sure?”
Kamala: “Come on, yes, of course, why would I… why would I give them to them?”
Armstead: “Then they fine you.”
Kamala: “They fined me and then asked me if I could have them in the Hall of Fame, and guess what I did, I said ‘Yeah, you all can have them, but you have to pay me.'”
Armstead: “Then they…?”
Kamala: “‘We don’t do that’ and I said ‘Yeah y’all do that’ but I won’t say who they paid but they did and they were like ‘No we don’t do that’ and I said ‘Well y’all can’t have them’ and why should I do that and y’all fined me and now you want to do it… no, no.”
This discussion point was corroborated by Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football News, who said that during a previous visit to Kamara’s home, he had all of his career sneakers in his office, labeled with dates and catalogues.
It’s curious that this is exactly what happened, and how it all unfolded behind the scenes. The fine is a bit ridiculous, especially considering the cleats are so closely associated with this historic moment that they cycle through every year around Christmas. Regardless, it’s nice to know that the sneakers are with Kamara and that he keeps them as a memory of that day.
