Liverpool have made significant changes to their senior structure following the departure of Jurgen Klopp in 2024.
The German became more of a “manager” than a “head coach” within Fenway Sports Group and then took steps to divide his powers. Arne Slot became head coach and Richard Hughes became athletic director.

Coordinating these actions on behalf of FSG is former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards. Edwards returns as football chief executive – with all three leaders signed until 2027.
It seems now Next year remains a clear end point Liverpool’s new leadership structure, according to trusted club insider Paul Joyce in The Times.
2027 marks the end
Edwards was brought back to oversee the installation of a multi-club ownership model, but those plans have been suspended indefinitely.
Meanwhile, Sloter has put plans for a new contract on the back burner as Hughes and Edwards assess the impact of a poor season. Hughes is reportedly already on the radar of Al Hilal, with the Saudi Professional League club prepared to make a lucrative offer for the Scot.

“FSG is led by sporting director Richard Hughes and FSG football operations chief executive Michael Edwards, who have just over a year left on their contracts, leaving their futures unclear,” the report said.
“Al Hilal has targeted Hughes but some people at the club will be surprised if he leaves this summer. But that’s not to say he will stay at Liverpool long-term.”
“Similarly, Edwards had become frustrated with the lack of progress in buying a second football club for the FSG empire as early as last summer and it appears unlikely that he will sign a new deal. Sources close to ownership declined to comment.”
