All 32 NFL teams (including Texans) ranked by FPI ratings post-Week 17

How are the Houston Texans doing heading into Week 18 of the 2025 NFL season? With the playoffs approaching with eight straight wins and an 11-5 record, not every team’s roster is the same due to schedules and injuries, but the Texans appear to be winning more than just one playoff game this January.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, the Texans are ranked 3.2 in ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) ratings. That’s good enough for eighth in the NFL.

The Colts will replace veteran Philip Rivers with rookie quarterback Riley Leonard. After losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-17 on Sunday, the Colts enter Sunday’s game with a Football Power Index (FPI) ranking of -2.6, which is good enough for 21st in the NFL.

Even if a road loss comes back to haunt them in two weeks, the Texans are still in the playoff picture and are potential favorites to come back and win the AFC South title. Despite a win, Houston still needed a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Denver Broncos to reach the tiebreaker heading into Week 17.

After a win over the Colts and a Jaguars loss to the Titans, the Texans will take control of first place in the AFC and host a playoff game in the wild-card round.

According to ESPN.com, FPI is “a measure of team strength and the best predictor of a team’s performance for the remainder of the season.”
