ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque woman is on the run after nearly killing a patient while pretending to be a nurse. In April 2024, April Hernandez forged documents to steal the identity of a registered nurse and then illegally provided care to hospice patients, nearly causing the death of a patient who overdosed on morphine.

Last month, she pleaded guilty to identity theft, fraud, resident abuse and falsifying Medicaid documents. She was sentenced to a one-year community detention program and was expected to surrender last Wednesday, but she did not.
Hernandez was charged with shoplifting after being released from jail. KRQE News 13 reached out to her attorney for comment but has not yet heard back.
