London is Seattle’s largest intercontinental market, with more than 400 passengers traveling daily between the two vibrant cities, making it a strategic choice for Alaska’s transatlantic debut.

Alaska Airlines will offer daily, year-round flights to the British capital using its wide-body 787-9 aircraft, which feature 34 enclosed suites with fully lie-flat seats in business class. The route is targeted at business and leisure travelers looking for premium onboard amenities and expanded connectivity options.

CEO Ben Minicucci emphasized the importance of this expansion: “With these bold moves, we are accelerating our vision of connecting our guests to the world. We are seizing this moment to redefine and elevate international experiences.”

As the gateway to Europe, this daily flight will connect passengers across the West Coast to London and other destinations served by Alaska’s extensive partner network, while also providing passengers in Alaska and Hawaii convenient scheduled connections to much-needed markets.

The London route will utilize Alaska’s growing fleet of Boeing 787-9s, sporting a striking new global livery inspired by the Northern Lights. Alaska Air Group’s 2024 acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines gives the airline its first wide-body aircraft and accelerates its long-haul expansion plans.

The airline currently operates four 787-9 aircraft and will open a new pilot base in Seattle starting in spring 2026 to support the aircraft type. Alaska Airlines debuts its eye-catching global exterior design that will be adopted across its growing fleet of up to 17 wide-body 787 Dreamliners.

The Seattle-London market is currently served by British Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic, with approximately 14,700 seats per week in both directions. The addition of Alaska will provide travelers with additional itinerary options and premium capacity.

Alaska’s expansion into the London market presents significant opportunities, driven by strengthened alliances with American Airlines and British Airways, with these alliances expected to deepen over time.

The London announcement is part of a comprehensive international expansion strategy. The long-haul Dreamliner experience will launch between Seattle and Seoul-Incheon on September 12, and will be available on the existing Seattle-Tokyo Narita route starting on January 7, 2026. Flights to Rome are planned to start next spring.

The airline plans to launch at least 12 nonstop intercontinental flights from Seattle by 2030, establishing the Pacific Northwest hub as a major gateway for global travel.

In addition to London, Alaska has announced seasonal daily flights to Reykjavik, Iceland. Alaska Airlines will serve adventure enthusiasts and outdoor enthusiasts on its Reykjavik route using 737-8 MAX aircraft during Iceland’s long, bright summer days, while providing a convenient gateway to mainland Europe.

International travel, especially in premium seats, has held up better than domestic demand in the U.S., which is oversupplied, making Alaska a strategic opportunity to enter the long-haul market.

This route provides an alternative for those looking for more flight time, greater premium seating capacity, and the ability to earn and redeem valuable miles through Alaska’s award-winning loyalty program.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport currently offers 58 service options to 36 international destinations via 30 different airlines, and with Alaska Airlines announcing the launch of three new services in 2026, SEA will offer more than 60 international services.

Alaska Airlines will make significant investments in the onboard experience over the next few years, including new interiors and updated lie-flat seats, new premium economy and upgraded main cabin seats, as well as new premium products and amenities to match the exceptional service provided by its flight attendants.

The launch of the London service is Alaska Airlines’ most significant step toward becoming a global airline, leveraging the strategic position of its Seattle hub and the operational capabilities gained through the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines. As the airline moves toward its goal of serving 12 intercontinental destinations by 2030, the London service will serve as a flagship route, reflecting Alaska’s commitment to providing high-quality international service and connectivity to West Coast travelers.
