Abandoned dog found in freezing temperatures in Havelock

HAVELOCK COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) – The Havelock Police Department Animal Control Division is asking for the public’s help identifying the owner of a dog that was abandoned in a crate.

The dog was left in a cage outside an abandoned shopping plaza near Sonic on February 4th around 2pm to 4pm in freezing weather. The dog was left outdoors in dangerously cold conditions, posing a serious risk to its health and safety.

Animal Control has secured the dog and it is receiving appropriate care.

Havelock Police Department asks you to report the following:

  • Witnessed someone leaving dog crates in the area

  • Observed any suspicious activity near the abandoned shopping plaza

  • Recognize the dog or know who its owner may be.

This investigation is ongoing.
