“A Proud and Emotional Moment”: Parvez Rasool on Jammu and Kashmir’s first Ranji Trophy win

Former India cricketer Parvez Rasool, the first Jammu and Kashmir player to play for India, has praised his hometown team after they won their maiden Ranji Trophy title. He singled out Ochibu Nabi for his outstanding performance this season, saying it was “his performance”.

Nabi played a key role in Jammu and Kashmir’s success, taking important wickets in every match, whether the pitch favored the bowlers or the batsmen.

He emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy season, taking 60 wickets in 10 games at an average of 12.56, including 7 five-wicket hauls.

“This is a proud and exciting moment for all of J&K. After 67 years, we have won the Ranji Trophy. Bishan Singh Bedi taught us how to win when he was in charge of J&K cricket. It was Auqib Nabi’s performance. Auqib Nabi was talented and he showed it through his performance,” Parvez Rasool told ANI.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary lauded the team’s achievement, saying they have proved the potential of JK.

“It is a proud day for Jammu and Kashmir… After 67 years, a team from J&K has won this trophy… These kids have proved that J&K is no less than any other state… BCCI may pick 1 or 2 kids from this team who can play at a higher level,” Chaudhary told ANI.

Paras Dogra led Jammu and Kashmir to a fairytale victory over the mighty Karnataka, ending their 67-year wait.

In the inaugural Ranji Trophy final, Jammu and Kashmir emerged as champions with a huge first-innings lead of 291 runs while Karnataka, led by Devdutt Padikkal, failed to defeat their opponents on Saturday.
