‘A massive vehicle on its own’

As far as the rest of the world is concerned, the saying “everything is bigger in Texas” could actually apply to the entire United States. It’s true that we in America generally follow the “bigger is better” lifestyle.

We’ve been building bigger homes, bigger TVs, and bigger vehicles for decades, and a post on Reddit really illustrates the point of that last one, with a photo of three pickup trucks parked side by side.

“Great comparison of current midsize and full-size cars in America. Tacoma vs. Chevy,” a Reddit user wrote in the caption. The photo shows three pickup trucks, including a Toyota Tacoma sandwiched between two larger Chevys.

While sometimes bigger is better, there are some things in our lives that could do with being a little smaller.

The unfortunate reality is that bigger is not always better. These huge pickup trucks pose a serious danger to pedestrians, especially children, who have difficulty seeing in front of these huge vehicles and are therefore hit in many accidents.

Additionally, larger vehicles are generally more expensive and burn more fuel, resulting in more pollution. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, while heavy-duty vehicles account for only 10% of all vehicles on the road, they produce 25% of the earth-heating pollution on the road.

Trucks aren’t the only vehicles getting bigger and producing more pollution, either. Recent photos of two cruise ships show how surprisingly large today’s cruise ships are compared to those built 25 years ago.

While bigger is sometimes better — we’re not complaining about 70-inch TVs — some things in our lives, like our vehicles, could do with being a little smaller. It will reduce the amount of materials used to build these huge vehicles, and the vehicles themselves will produce less pollution.

Of course, ditching your car altogether and opting to walk, bike, or take public transportation can save you money and help cool the planet.

Other Reddit users had a lot to say about the super truck sandwich in the comments.

“The Toyota is still a large pickup truck by normal standards,” one person said.

Another echoed the sentiment, “Tacoma is A lot of The vehicle is self-propelled. …the ‘full size’ category should at least be renamed plus size. “

“Frankly oversized,” someone added, tweaking a previous “full size” comment. “Too big.”
