Reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are retaining A.J. Brown haven’t stopped some in the NFL from anticipating an offseason trade.

The Eagles have decided not to trade Brown at this time, The Athletic’s Diana Russini said Friday. However, the league isn’t convinced it’s done shopping for a Pro Bowl wide receiver.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio believes a trade for Brown is “inevitable,” according to some sources. One source predicts he will head to the New England Patriots, who are “moving on” after signing Romeo Dubs.

According to Russini, the Eagles have had “serious conversations” with the Patriots and Los Angeles Rams. Both teams are still interested, but any trade would likely have to wait until around June 1.

Florio noted that if the Eagles trade Brown before June 1, they will take on a “much smaller” dead cap hit. But given the quiet start to free agency, they may be more willing or able to take the full $23.4 million hit if a deal is made after that date.

“Another source explained that if the Eagles keep Brown until 2026, they will be in potential cap chaos in 2027,” Florio wrote. “Regardless, just because the trade didn’t happen doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The signs continue to point to it happening. The only question is whether the Eagles decide to wait until after June 1 to officially announce the trade.”

In line with other recent reports, The Athletic says Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is seeking first- and second-round picks for Brown. The likelihood of the Eagles trading Brown before next month’s draft seems unlikely, but perhaps the Patriots still have a chance to acquire the star receiver before the 2026 campaign.
