Bhuvneshwar Kumar scripts history, becomes first fast bowler in IPL to …

Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name in the history books when Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Chennai Super Kings, becoming the second bowler and the first fast bowler to reach 200 wickets in the history of the Indian Premier League. He achieved the purpose by dismissing Ayush Mhatre in IPL 2026 on Sunday.

Bhuvneshwar, the second-highest wicket taker in the league, has now joined Yuzvendra Chahal in the 200-wicket club. He now has 202 wickets in 192 games at an average of 27.25. Chahal holds the lead with 224 wickets in 176 games at an average of 22.68. Sunil Narine ranks third with 193 wickets in 191 games.

The landmark wicket came when Bhuvneshwar dismissed Mhatre during RCB’s match against CSK. He bowled a long delivery outside the stumps, which rose up and restricted the batsmen while pulling the ball. Mhatre mistimed the ball and the ball rose at mid-off and Rajat Patidar completed the catch.

In the same match, RCB scored a total of 250 runs in three matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The match started with Virat Kohli scoring 28 points off 18 balls and Phil Salt scoring 46 points off 30 balls.

The scoring then continued with Devdutt Padikkal (50 not out in 29 balls), captain Patidhar (48 not out in 19 balls) and Tim David (70 not out in 25 balls).

RCB picked up the pace in the middle and final overs. Padilkar and Patidar added runs before Patidar and David forged an uninterrupted 99-run partnership in 35 balls. David’s final knock, which included eight sixes, helped RCB reach 250 in 20 overs. The team hit a total of 19 sixes in the innings.
