This year, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the best team in the league. They are the defending champions and have done a great job of staying atop the NBA. The pressure was on SGA as the Thunder’s best player, and he once again stepped up, as his MVP campaign showed.
Holmgren believes no one can come close to SGA’s MVP campaign
As the Thunder’s best player, Gilgeous-Alexander displays a variety of positive qualities. Most people know him for his natural scoring ability, which shows in his ability to score at all three levels. He’s also an elite defender, which is rare among superstar guards.
Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander’s playmaking ability is sometimes overlooked. He’s one of the most talented guards in the league as he makes sure to be the Thunder’s go-to playmaker, able to maximize the abilities of everyone else on the roster.

While SGA has so many strengths, there are many more great players in the league. Recently, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been in hot form, averaging more than 40 points per game in recent times. Coupled with the Lakers’ continued climb in the Western Conference standings, people think he has a chance to compete for MVP.
The same goes for San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, another MVP candidate. However, if you ask Chet Holmgren, he thinks SGA is a worthy MVP.
“I don’t think I can, I don’t think it’s close enough. I think Shea is running away… I mean, man, we have such a great league with some wild names. We have a lot of great guys that make this happen,” Holmgren said on The Arena while talking about SGA’s MVP campaign.
