Chargers free agency: LA re-signs LB Denzel Perryman

The Chargers signed linebacker Denzel Perryman to a one-year contract extension on Thursday.

The 33-year-old is entering his 13th NFL season and will be wearing the powder blue for his ninth season. Perriman has two stints with the Chargers, starting his career as a member of the San Diego Chargers before returning to the organization in 2024.

Perryman will join the Raiders in the 2021-2022 season and stay in the AFC West. The linebacker then signed with the Texans for one season before returning to Los Angeles.

Perriman had 30 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and three quarterback hits last season. The veteran will play a key role in defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary’s first year in the position as a respected presence in the locker room and due to his familiarity with Jesse Minter’s orchestrated defensive schemes.

The linebacker missed the final two games of the NFL season due to suspension. The Chargers are in a tight AFC West race, so Perriman is definitely being missed.

As the Chargers prepare to make a deep playoff push in 2026, veterans like Perriman, Khalil Mack and Derwin James will be crucial in keeping the team focused down the stretch.
