Bukayo Saka’s new deal may not last as long as initially reported, according to new reports following the announcement of his contract extension.

Initial reports on Bukayo Saka’s new Arsenal contract suggested it was a five-year deal until 2031, but the BBC’s Sammy Mokbel reports it’s more like a “five-season” deal until 2030.

In practical terms, that means the contract actually lasts four and a half years, taking us to the end of the current campaign, and then four years from now.
Arsenal and Saka have been in contract talks for some time, so the confusion may stem from the fact that 2030 was still five years away when talks accelerated last summer.

It means Arsenal will need to renegotiate Saka’s terms earlier than previously thought, but the deal will still run until the winger is just months away from his 29th birthday. Therefore, he is expected to spend the majority of his career with the Gunners regardless of whether he signs another contract.

Mokber added that Saka’s new contract would make him Arsenal’s highest-paid player, with wages in excess of £300,000-a-week.
Saka’s previous contract expires in 2027, so this is definitely something the club needs to address before heading into his final season.

The focus now is purely football and staying healthy. Saka scored his eighth goal of the season on Wednesday to go along with seven assists, but he was forced off early on after two (relatively brief) injury absences earlier in the season.
Arsenal are still fighting for trophies on four fronts, but the Gunners will need their attacking players to improve significantly over the next few months if this continues.
