Manchester United are reportedly one of the leading candidates to sign Wolves midfielder Joao Gomez next summer.
The Brazilian began his career at Flamengo, where he rose through the ranks to become one of the most exciting young midfielders in the country.

In January 2023, Wolves bought the player’s contract for £15 million, which was considered a masterstroke for the Premier League boy.
Last year, Gomez extended his contract with Molineux until June 2030, with the option to extend for another season. However, with the club almost relegated to the Championship, the 25-year-old is expected to leave the club in the summer.
Manchester United and Napoli in race for Joao Gomez
Gomez has been heavily linked with a mid-season move to Manchester United in recent months. However, the Red Devils ultimately opted to keep their squad intact until the end of the season.

On the other hand, a report in Brazil claims that the B2B midfielder could return to Flamengo in the summer.
However, prominent Brazilian journalist Julio Miguel Neto was quick to refute the rumors, insisting that Gomez has no intention of returning to his home country at a relatively early stage in his career.

Instead, Neto sees Napoli as Wolves’ favorite player to recruit, while insisting United will still be in contention.
“Joao Gomez’s entourage has no intention of negotiating the midfielder’s return to Brazilian football,” Post the reporter on his X account.

“The most likely destination for the player is Napoli, with Manchester United also making inquiries.
“The club (Flamengo) did not take any action against a holding midfielder. Philippe Louis spoke after the win over Vitoria, stressing that the team was already well covered in the position. “
Why Gomez is an enticing opportunity for Manchester United
With Casemiro leaving Carrington in June, United are expected to sign at least two new players to bolster their already thin midfield squad.
United have long regarded Elliot Anderson as their ultimate priority target ahead of next season, with Adam Walton and Carlos Baleba also among the leading candidates.

However, with transfer fees for all three of the aforementioned stars in the region of £100m, Ineos are expected to sign only one of them while seeking a more affordable player to fill the second spot.
With Wolves on the verge of relegation, Gomez could be available for a bargain price, making him a suitable candidate for the role. Transfermarkt estimates the Rio de Janeiro native is worth €40m (approximately £35m), but United will certainly try to negotiate a lower figure.
MUFC will also have to overcome competition from Napoli. Interestingly, some media in Italy and England have been suggesting that the Red Devils are trying to bring Scott McTominay back to Old Trafford, but the Scot could end up linking up with Gomez at the Maradona Stadium next season.
