WhatsApp Multi-Device Support Starts Rolling Out to All Users: How to Link

WhatsApp has started rolling out the long-awaited multi-device support for all users. With the latest feature, Android and iOS users can use their WhatsApp accounts on different devices at the same time, sending and receiving messages on the app, even if their phones don’t have active internet access. This feature has been in beta for quite some time. You can use up to four linked devices and one phone at a time. However, it should be noted that if the phone is inactive for 14 consecutive days, the linked device will be disconnected.

WhatsApp has updated its FAQ page with details about the multi-device support feature. WhatsApp now allows users to connect their instant messaging accounts to up to four devices, including laptops or PCs. Users do not need to connect their phone to the Internet to access this feature. However, if you don’t use your phone for more than 14 days, WhatsApp will disconnect you from the paired device. WhatsApp has confirmed that it can encrypt chats using internet-connected devices end-to-end. Therefore, neither WhatsApp nor third parties can read the messages you send or receive on the connected PC or laptop.

How to link your WhatsApp account to a secondary device

To use the multi-device feature, users need to update WhatsApp to the latest version. Once done, you can use WhatsApp on multiple devices by following these steps:

1. Open Whatsapp on your Android smartphone and tap on the three-dot menu. choose link device. WhatsApp iOS users can select linked devices with a tap set up icon.
2. choose link device.
3. Unlock your phone via biometrics or enter your PIN.
4. Open web.whatsapp.com or WhatsApp desktop app on your PC or laptop.
5. Scan the QR code with your smartphone.

Once connected, WhatsApp can be accessed simultaneously on different devices to send and receive messages. It should be noted that some features are not supported by the linking device.

According to WhatsApp, live location cannot be viewed on paired devices. It’s not possible to create and view broadcast lists or send messages with link previews from WhatsApp Web on secondary devices. Additionally, iPhone users cannot delete or clear chat history on linked devices. Linked devices also do not support calling or messaging users using older versions of WhatsApp.
