This Cool New Hybrid Camera Gadget Is A Retro Dream

Retro is back, baby. Even if some people are looking for clever uses for old cameras, Japanese company Fujifilm is embracing the past with its new instant camera, and those who love all things retro will certainly appreciate the features – but they may not appreciate the modern price. The new camera is part of the company’s Evo line of instax hybrid instant cameras, and photographers in the United States will be able to get their hands on it in February.

In addition to a 1.54-inch LCD screen, viewfinder and grip attachments, a microSD card slot, a USB-C port for transfer and charging, and remote shooting, the Fujifilm instax mini Eco Cinema also comes with a few additional features, including the ability to physically adjust the camera to suit different eras of photography technology. Not only can this 3-in-1 model capture photos and videos, but users can also print photos directly from the camera. Additionally, there is an iOS and Android app available that includes some additional features.

Consumers in Japan will get the camera first, although the device is already available for pre-order in the United States as of this writing. Time will tell if this becomes one of the best cameras for aspiring photographers, but the $400+ price tag may be too much for some. Still, it might be a good thing for those who want to celebrate nearly 100 years of photographic style without going to the local thrift store to buy technology.

One of the standout features of the Fujifilm instax mini Evo Cinema hybrid instant camera is its Eras Dial, which allows photographers to apply camera effects from different film eras, with users choosing between 10 different decades, all the way back to the 1930s. Each effect also has its own adjustable levels, including contrast, noise and color, giving users 100 possible choices. One example includes dialing it back to the 1980s to get the look of a 35mm color negative. It can also capture a modern look.

In addition to taking photos and 15-second videos with the flip of a switch, it can also create instax photos with its analog printbar. These physical photos are taken from photos or video stills and can also provide QR codes for the actual videos. Users can create a 15-second long video or shoot multiple shots to edit it. Users can also extend these videos to 30 seconds using a dedicated app, which also offers additional features including converting photos into movie posters and an accompanying dedicated gallery.

Japan will be the first to get the Evo Cinema on January 30, 2026, while US residents can get it on February 8, 2026. It’s currently available for pre-order from retailers including Best Buy and B&H Photo and Video for $409.95. With a price like this, some people may just want to find the best DSLR camera available and edit their photos for a retro feel.
