Should Amon-Ra St. Brown be playing in NBA Celebrity All-Star game?

On Friday night, reports emerged that Detroit Lions wide receiver Ammon-La St. Brown will participate in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game in mid-February. For most Lions fans, this is a great opportunity to see a popular player continue to see his star rise to the level of a national sensation. St. Brown’s stock has been rising over the years, and it’s certainly pretty cool to see him reach celebrity status considering all the hard work and effort he’s put in to become a member of the NFL.

But I’ve also seen some backlash. Looking at the comments section in our news story, most Lions fans seem more concerned about the injury risk of the game than excited about seeing him play in an interesting and unique game. There is also a small and vocal group of people who seem a little uncomfortable with St. Brown’s celebrity status. Whether it’s his podcast, TV commercials or other high-profile activities, some believe the Lions receiver is spending more time on things other than football, which certainly means he’s spending more time on things other than football. less He devoted his time to a full-time job as an NFL receiver.

So today’s question of the day is:

Are you happy with Amon-Ra St. Brown’s participation in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game?

My answer: Yes, of course I am.

First, I want to address the idea that St. Brown doesn’t invest enough time in his craft. Every time St. Brown breaks down a pass or misses a block, I see a flood of responses from Lions fans telling him to quit the podcast or stop advertising. Personally, I think it’s absolutely ridiculous to link these two things. Falls happen, and while this year feels like a huge anomaly, St. Brown only had two more falls than he had in his statistically best season in 2023. I think the issue of St. Brown’s falls is mostly exaggerated because some of them happened to happen at important times.

Additionally, I can assure you, being around the Lions facility every day, there is no one in the building who can say they work harder than St. Brown. He truly is the epitome of hard work in this building, as players, coaches and other members of the media can attest, and his performance has not declined at all since he became a household name. When people talk about St. Brown, they use the word “consistency” or talk about how he refuses to become complacent. Any suggestion that St. Brown was too distracted by celebrity endeavors and compromised his work ethic is misleading in every way.

As for the risk of injury from the incident, that’s at least the most reasonable, but even so, I think you’re projecting your own anxiety onto the situation. While the possibility of injuries to St. Brown is not out of the question, it seems unlikely given the pace and loose nature of the game. This is certainly less likely than the normal risks that come with offseason training.

So, yeah, let St. Brown live a little. Let him be a human being. He doesn’t have to focus on football 100% of the time, just like I’m sure you don’t focus on work all the time.

What do you think? Are there any issues with St. Brown participating in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game? Or is someone making something out of nothing here?
