Dokupil responded, “I think a lot of the public is calling out the same thing, so they’re confused. Maybe you can help me understand how DHS was able to conclude so quickly that, quote, this was an ‘act of domestic terrorism.'” The woman was quoted as saying, “Her vehicle was weaponized.” By the same standards you describe, this investigation is just beginning. “
“This is a Department of Homeland Security problem. I’m the border czar,” Homan retorted. “What’s the benefit of now prejudging the facts of what happened without giving law enforcement professionals, whether it’s the FBI or local police, time to watch all the video, talk to all the witnesses, talk to the police and make an informed decision about what happened today?”
He concluded: “This is what needs to happen. I’ve been a police officer since 1984 and this is the process we have to go through.”
Noem’s Department of Homeland Security issued a statement Wednesday claiming the woman shot and killed by ICE agents “armed her vehicle and attempted to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them — an act of domestic terrorism.”
“An ICE officer feared for his life, the lives of his law enforcement colleagues, and the safety of the public and fired his weapon defensively,” the statement continued. “He used his training to save his own life and the lives of other officers.”
Video footage of the incident appeared to show the woman driving toward an officer, who then shot the driver. Critics said the officer used excessive force.
