Marquette at UConn: Do Golden Eagles have a chance? Odds, prediction

Storrs, Conn. – Things were bad for the Marquette men’s basketball team, and things didn’t get any better on January 4th.

The Golden Eagles (5-9, 0-3 Big East) have lost five straight games. Not since Mississippi started 0-5 in Conference USA under head coach Mike Deane in 1998-99 has it lost four straight games in an opening season.

Now, Missouri must enter Gampel Pavilion to face UConn (13-1, 3-0), ranked No. 4 in both the USA Today coaches and AP polls.

Please follow the real-time updates of the game:

Sean Jones will miss game with foot injury

Mississippi State’s bench will be short-handed against the Huskies, with junior guard Sean Jones out with a foot injury.

Jones had a frustrating season, missing six games with a shoulder ailment after a lengthy recovery.

Missouri’s reserves don’t have many options after Zade Lowery departs. Trey Norman is the only true guard option, so starter Chase Ross will likely take on some ball-handling duties as well.

University of Connecticut Marquette predictions

There’s no logical way to think MU has a chance in this. The Golden Eagles last won on the road at UConn in 2012. UConn is favored to win the national championship this season, while Missouri is trying to avoid its worst conference season since going 4-14 in 2014-15. If the Golden Eagles can keep the deficit within 20 points, it could be a win.
