Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix earned a 64.7 “Total QBR” rating from ESPN in last week’s divisional round of the NFL playoffs, ranking first among the four remaining quarterbacks in the NFL playoffs. The Knicks’ traditional passer rating is 87.1.
Unlike traditional passer ratings, quarterback totals “include all of a quarterback’s contributions to victory, including how he impacted the game through passing, rushing, turnovers and penalties,” according to ESPN.

The metric takes into account scenarios that traditional passer ratings ignore and considers “a team’s level of success or failure on each play to provide proper context, then allocate credit to the quarterback and his teammates for a clearer measure of a quarterback’s effectiveness.”
With that context in mind, let’s take a look at how Nix and backup starter Jarrett Stidham stack up against the NFL’s other starting quarterbacks in the conference championship game. Stidham will start his first game since 2023 after suffering a season-ending injury with the Knicks. Since he has yet to play this season, Stidham’s rating comes from two games into the 2023 season.
NFL playoff quarterbacks, ranked by total quarterback count
-
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford: 39.8
-
Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham: 31.8 (2023 regular season)
Stidham and the Broncos will face Meyer and the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. The winner of that game will advance to the Super Bowl.
