LAS VEGAS (AP) — Vasily Podkolzin, Leon Draisaitl and Kasperi Kapanen scored in the third period and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 on Sunday night, tightening the Pacific Division race.
The Golden Knights, who accumulated 72 points, missed the opportunity to overtake Anaheim. After the Ducks lost 0-4 at home to St. Louis, Anaheim’s points remained at 73 points. Third-place Edmonton had 70.

Vegas has lost five of six games, while the Oilers have lost six of eight heading into this contest.
Trent Frederic also scored for the Oilers and Connor Ingram made 24 saves. Connor McDavid had two assists and Evan Bouchard added one to extend their winning streak to seven games.
Noah Hanifin and Jack Eichel scored for the Golden Knights. Mitch Marner added two assists and Adin Hill stopped 15 shots.
Vegas winger Brett Howden played in a game for the first time in two months. He was out with a lower-body injury.
The two teams traded goals in the second half, but Golden Knights winger Keegan Kolesar’s goal was successfully challenged by the Oilers.

Then in the third quarter, Podkolzin broke through the faceoff and scored an unassisted goal, helping the Oilers lead 2-1 with 2 minutes and 34 seconds left in the game. Draisaitl scored with 8:07 left after Eichel was unable to clear the puck out of his own zone when teammate Rasmus Andersson’s broken stick blocked his path.
With 3:16 left in the game, Eichel scored a shorthanded goal from the right circle to cut the deficit to one point. Kapanen then ended any doubts with an empty-netter with 1:57 left.
