3 bold predictions for Alabama’s home matchup vs. Texas

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night at Coleman Coliseum.

The Tide came into the matchup coming off a road loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the First 15, as a slew of injuries ultimately cost Alabama the game. LaBaron Philon Jr. played only 19 minutes and scored 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The star guard left the game with a full-body cramp and was unable to return in the second half.

Aden Holloway and Latrell Wrightsell could see increased playing time if Philon continues to be sidelined, but the Tide will be looking to get the sharpshooter back from injury as quickly as possible, starting with this game against Texas.

Here are three bold takes on the Alabama-Texas game.

Aden Holloway’s role grows

Holloway scored 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting on Wednesday night, a young guard who was able to step up and play at an elite level after Philon was injured. If Philon is unable to play, the former Auburn star will likely thrive again, as the sharpshooter has proven to perform under an increased workload in countless games over the past few games. Holloway is currently shooting an impressive 46.7% from three-point range, and the star will look to keep his hot form coming into Saturday night.

Aiden Scherer scores double-double in first game back from injury

Scherer played a key role on both sides of the ball for the Crimson Tide. The talented big man currently leads the team with 2.8 blocks per game, and Scherer will undoubtedly miss his presence on the boards while out. If the second-year forward returns on Saturday night, he could be in prime position for a big game as the Tide continues to slowly get healthier as the season progresses.

Allen continues to turn heads in the early months of the 2025-26 season. The impressive freshman led the Crimson Tide with 25 points in Wednesday night’s loss to Nashville, and Allen has quickly carved out a bigger role for himself and has excelled in recent weeks. Allen could benefit from Philon’s injury if he misses Saturday, but the freshman could still end up having another big night.
