The NFL announced its 2026 compensatory draft picks, awarding a total of 33 picks to 15 teams. The draft begins April 23 in Pittsburgh.
The Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars all received third-round picks. The Eagles, Steelers and Baltimore Ravens each received four picks, the most in the league.

NFL teams receive these additional draft picks when a player, coach or executive leaves their previous team and signs with another team.
For player-based compensatory picks, their quality depends on factors such as the player’s salary with his new team, playing time, and accolades such as All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections. Teams are only eligible for compensatory draft picks if they lose players through free agency at the end of their contracts, rather than by cutting players. If a team loses a free agent and replaces him with a player of similar caliber within the same year, these draft picks can be eliminated.
Additionally, compensatory draft picks may be awarded if a team loses a minority coach or personnel due to a head coaching or general manager change.
