007 First Light Is Getting a Gameplay Deep Dive at Sony’s State of Play This Week

Hitman developer IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game First Light is getting an in-depth look at the gameplay this week. Sony announced a state-of-the-game demo on Monday, promising a deep dive into IO Interactive’s espionage action-adventure game. A special State of Play broadcast will be broadcast live on Wednesday, September 3rd. 007 First Light was also unveiled at the State of Play demo in June.

How to watch game status

The show will stream live on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels on September 3 at 11am PT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST (11:30pm IST). IO Interactive confirmed in a PlayStation blog post that the show will feature over 30 minutes of 007 First Light gameplay.

Gameplay in Detail

IOI says Dawn of the Dawn gameplay will provide an in-depth look at Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit. Keep in mind that the upcoming game is a standalone reimagining of the James Bond origin story, starring a young 26-year-old Bond on his way to earning his identity as “00.” Bond in Daybreak begins as an arrogant Royal Navy aircrewman before landing in an MI6 training program.

“The action includes everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts. Stay tuned after you beat the game for IO Interactive’s take on the intense espionage gameplay,” said the developer. A trailer for Daybreak in June showed some gameplay footage, and Bond can be seen sneaking around in a car, shooting, and running wild.

A state of play demo could also confirm the game’s release date. First Light is expected to release in 2026 on PC, PS5 (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch 2, but IO Interactive has yet to narrow down a release date.

In June, Sony released a trailer for “007 First Light” at the State of Play conference, which included gameplay, cutscenes, and in-engine footage. The action-adventure promises to be a journey around the world, featuring exotic locales, stylish gadgets and a who’s who of Bond allies and villains. Like Hitman, First Light is a third-person action-adventure game developed using IOI’s proprietary Glacier engine.
