Wirtz misses Liverpool’s game against Chelsea because of stomach infection

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz will miss Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea with a stomach bug, head coach Arne Slott said.

The Germany international fell ill this week and missed a period of training, so Sloter left him out of Chelsea’s squad for the trip to Anfield.

“He tried his best to fit in,” Slaughter told TNT Sports in a pregame interview.

Slaughter described the disease as a “stomach infection.”

“He hasn’t been feeling well this week,” Slaughter said. “He tried to train earlier in the week but it ended up getting worse and he couldn’t train with us yesterday and he couldn’t train with us today.”

“Florian was a little uncomfortable, but he trained with us yesterday,” Slaughter said when asked about Wirtz’s condition at Friday’s press conference.

Fourth-placed Liverpool is out of contention for the Premier League title, but hopes to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
