GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) – The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed a weather-related death due to winter weather that began affecting East Tennessee on Friday, January 30th.
Deaths reported in Greene County. This is the second winter weather-related death confirmed by the East Tennessee Department of Health; all deaths occurred in central or western Tennessee. The previously reported deaths were all due to the winter storm that began affecting the state on January 23 last weekend.
Knoxville weather: Very low temperatures, slippery roads
Much of East Tennessee is under a winter storm warning until 1 a.m. Sunday, with freezing temperatures and snow showers expected. Some area schools have also canceled Monday classes due to winter weather.
As of 9 a.m. Jan. 31, more than 55,000 customers were still without power across the state. Most of those outages occurred in central or western Tennessee. The Tennessee National Guard and Department of Forestry personnel continue to assist with power restoration efforts and clear downed trees for utility crews and emergency personnel.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has set up a hotline for people to request storm-related welfare checks, and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency’s winter weather information hotline remains active.
