In wild video, A skier was bitten by a snow leopard near a resort in the Cocotuohai UNESCO Global Geopark in northwest China. In the horrific video, the cat can be seen standing next to a skier before being scared away by what some reports say is a ski instructor. The woman can later be seen walking away from the incident with blood on her face.
The skier reportedly ignored signs and warnings from authorities to stay away from the animals, which have been seen in the area more frequently than normal over the past few weeks. She apparently got too close to the leopard to take a selfie and was attacked.
Local authorities in Fuyun County are said to have stepped up patrols due to the increase in sightings and, of course, the attacks. Witnesses said the cat lurked in the area for 10 minutes or more before becoming agitated and attacking the skier. The skier was wearing a helmet, which may have saved her, and she was taken to a local hospital where she was reported to be in stable condition.
The Kokotohai International Ski Resort is located within the boundaries of the UNESCO Park in the Altai Mountains. Its summit is over 10,000 feet.
Skiers and snow leopards have clashed before, particularly in northern India, particularly in places like Kashmir. These creatures are extremely agile and have become a sensation in recent times due to their aggressive hunting tactics.
