The Wisconsin basketball team received 20 votes in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The move comes after Greg Gard’s team went 2-0 this past week. The Badgers beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers 78-75 at the buzzer on Jan. 13 and then beat Rutgers 96-87 on Jan. 17, prompting voters to give UW 15 more votes than they did on Jan. 12.

Arizona (No. 1), Michigan (No. 2), UConn (No. 3), Purdue (No. 4) and Duke (No. 5) occupy the upper tier of the poll, followed by Houston (No. 6), Nebraska (No. 7), Gonzaga (Eighth), Iowa State (Nine) and Michigan State (10th). In addition to the Wolverines, the Illinois Boilermakers, Cornhuskers and Spartans (No. 11) rounded out the top 25.
In the “votes collected” portion of the poll, Iowa tied with Wisconsin at 52 votes. It’s the highest number of votes UW has received since Nov. 24, when the Badgers received 51 votes.
Wisconsin, now 13-5 (5-2 Big Ten), is scheduled to face Penn State on Jan. 22 in College Park. The Badgers then close out January with games against USC, Minnesota and Ohio State.
