So whether you’re using an Android device or an iPhone, you can make group calls. Additionally, the chat app supports cross-platform group calling, which means you can chat with your friends no matter what platform they use.
WhatsApp Group Calls was launched in July 2018 and is an important and useful feature for many people who don’t want to know how to make group calls using other group calling apps like Zoom or Google Duo. The convenience offered by the Facebook-owned company through its group calling feature has certainly attracted many users. You can add new participants to an existing group call, or start a call with multiple members directly from one of your group chats.
All of this goes to show that group calls are an integral part of WhatsApp. But how to make a group call? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make a group call using WhatsApp. This guide provides you with steps for both Android and iPhone. We have also distinguished sections to let you know how to make group voice calls and group video calls with your contacts using WhatsApp. So, let’s get started.
Before starting these steps, it’s important to note that WhatsApp allows group calls with up to four participants at the same time. This means you cannot make a group call with more than three contacts on WhatsApp on any platform.
How to make a group call on WhatsApp for Android

Open WhatsApp on your phone.

Click call tabs in the bar, which contains the following tabs: Chat history and status.

Now, tap the call button in the lower right corner of the screen.

You will get a list of contacts to whom you can contact via WhatsApp call.

Click New group call button.

The app will now allow you to select the contact you want to call via group call from the list. Remember, you can only add three contacts for group calls.

You will now see the circle of contacts you selected for the group at the top of the list.

You can then choose between video and voice calls by tapping the Phone and Camera buttons respectively.
You can also add new participants at any time during the call (as long as the limit of four participants is not exceeded) by tapping the contact icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
How to make a group call on WhatsApp for iPhone
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Click call The bottom bar section includes status, call, cameraand Chat history part.
- Now, press the call button on the top right corner of the screen.
- A list will pop up on your screen with all your WhatsApp contacts.
- You now need to press New group call button above your WhatsApp contact list.
- The app will now provide you with a list from which you can select participants for the group call. Just like Android, you can only add up to three contacts for group calls.
- After selecting participants for a group call, you can make a voice call by clicking the phone button or a video call by clicking the camera button.
Of course, you can add any additional participants to the group call by tapping the contact icon in the upper right corner of the screen until the list reaches four participants.
WhatsApp also lets you make group calls directly from the group on Android and iPhone. This can be done by following the same steps on Android and iPhone. However, the contacts you want to reach through the group call need to be in your contact list.
How to make a group call from within a group on WhatsApp for Android and iPhone
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Select the group you want to make a group call with.
- Now, tap on the call button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- A pop-up screen will slide up from the bottom, where you can select the contact you want to call in the group call. You can pick up to three participants at a time.
- After that, you can select the camera button for a group video call or the phone button for a group audio call.
WhatsApp also recently made an update for groups with 4 or fewer members. The update makes it easier for users to make group calls as they can make group audio calls by simply tapping the phone button, or group video calls by tapping the camera button – just like you can make audio or video calls with individuals on WhatsApp.
