Southampton manager Toda Eckert was pleased with his team’s first-half performance in Hillsborough’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.
James Bree and Ryan Manning gave Saints a 2-0 lead at half-time, with Tyler Harwood-Bellis ensuring the lead after Jerry Yates halved the deficit before the break.

Eckert praised the team’s response to the fumble after taking control of the game early.
“I thought we played really well in the first half and if you do concede then you have to overcome the moment and we did that so I’m absolutely delighted,” he told BBC Radio Solent.
“We know we still have some areas to improve, but it was important to get the three points today.”
Southampton have now missed out on the Championship play-offs with six wins and one draw in their last seven games and Eckert wants his side to keep going.
“It’s been a very good month, the first with a positive result away from home and then three very important results and then two at home, so keep working hard until the next break,” he added.
“We need to make sure we keep moving forward.”
