New Zealand domestic cricketer Brett Randall made history on Sunday by becoming the first player in the 254 years of first-class cricket to take five wickets in five consecutive deliveries.
This remarkable spell came while representing Central Districts against Northern Districts in the Plunkett Shield match at McLean Park.
Randle’s incredible outburst came early in the North End game. He first struck Henry Cooper with the last pitch of the second round. In his next game, he dismissed former New Zealand Test opener Jeet Raval and then continued the havoc with three more wickets in the next three games.

Randall didn’t stop there. The 30-year-old Seamer picked up two more wickets in the next game before finishing with an impressive figure of 7 for 25 – the best performance of his nine-year first-class career. His devastating spell helped North Zone get out for just 82 runs while Central Zone posted 373 in their first innings.
While this achievement is unique in first-class cricket, Ireland international Curtis Campher took 5 wickets with 5 balls to his name in professional T20 matches last year. However, Randall’s feat was a first in the long history of first-class cricket.
